Following on from our last blog entry where we talked about the Dos and Don’ts about dressing for your body shape, we're back again to give you some tips on how to dress the Top Heavy or Inverted Triangle figure.
Top Heavy or Inverted Triangle. Inverted triangles are a rare breed, but thanks to the popularity of bust enhancement by plastic surgery this shape has become more common. If this is you then you have broad shoulders and small hips or large bust which exceeds width of hips. The aim for you is to strike a balance between your slim shapely lower body and your larger upper body. You want to select clothing that minimizes the bust while creating a defined waistline and avoiding a top heavy look. Catherine Zeta Jones, Angelina Jolie and Jessica Biel all have "Inverted Triangle" bodies. Ladies you should embrace your curves as your shape, the inverted triangle, is known as the second most desirable body shape after the hour glass!
Do's
- Wear a well-fitted bra that gives good support rather than a bra with padding
- You look great in sharp, crisp styles
- Go for single breasted jackets
- Waistcoats are great for hiding a large chest
- Wear fuller trousers to balance the lower half
- A line skirts create much needed volume below the waist
- Wear shirts with open necklines and collars - the V neckline halves the chest area
- Go for soft and smooth textured fabrics and simple designs
- Wear dark on top and light on the bottom as light colours attact the eye
Don’ts
- Keep away from fussy prints including horizontal stripes, check or large floral patterns
- Avoid styles that emphasise your shoulders
- Avoid high necklines that will give the illusion of a bulky top half
- Never wear big collars and frills on shirt fronts
- Resist the urge to wear narrow skirts and pants
- Avoid bulky sweaters, clingy fabrics and volumnious looser weaves that will make you appear broader instead wear crisp fabrics and styles.
